Pro-Olympic Protesters Struggle With Getting Message Across
February 22, 2010
A group of extremists voiced their concern this Saturday. But was their message lost in their approach?
A flood of pro-Olympic protesters took to the streets this Saturday afternoon, in an attempt to voice their support for the Olympics. The protesters brandished McDonalds advertisements and Coca Cola hats and their haunting chants could be heard through the streets of Vancouver. Protesters performed chants under the guise of a single megaphone wielding individual: “’Cause it’s lucrative!”, “Generally consume!” and “Eat cheeze burgz!” could be heard.
“I keep forgetting what I’m doing here, then the guy with the megaphone tells me to yell things then I do,” stated one participant.
A criminal element of the protest quickly became evident when a group of radicals in all red Coca Cola tracksuits began smashing windows of local mom-and-pop businesses. The protesters threw paint on and smashed windows of businesses that were about to flounder anyways, like Tom’s Educational Books and Fin-Addicts, a local fish-specific book store and boutique.
Police were dispatched and arrived on the scene to reinforce the protestors and increase chaos. Soon, the police were involved in extreme acts of Olympic support such as forcing homeless to drink Coca-Cola at gunpoint and using police vehicles to transport cheeseburgers from McDonalds to Fin-Addicts, which became a target for protestors. The cheeseburgers were used as projectiles in a courageous act of over-consumption and corporate support against the communist fish store owner.
