Police Provoke Violence to Instill Fear at Peaceful Protests
June 28, 2010
In an equi-lateral system, police respond to acts of peaceful protest – chanting, singing, dancing and sign-wielding – with their own approach to self-expression and the manifestation of their own convictions. In this instance, police should go ahead and watch the UFC match while eating chicken wings and calling their spouse “suga-tits”.
Paradoxically, it is NOT costume-clad individuals that protesters are dealing with. It is a body. Police officers mortgage their humanity when they pick that badge up. They become a cog in a system of power run by unified intention – they are a single entity. Fed by an ear-piece, police make arrests when they are told, they rush protest lines when they are told and they use force when they are told a “potential breach of peace” is at hand. They are leased; trained to sit down on command.
Forget dealing with cops, we need paradigm change.
